What is the difference between an auction and a classified ad?
An auction creates an environment where multiple prospective buyers can bid on your item. You choose the starting price. You may also choose whether to have a reserve price. The reserve price is typically the least amount you are wiling to accept. If the bids do not meet or exceed your reserve price by the end of the auction, then the item is not sold. If you do not set a reserve price, then the item is sold to the highest bidder at the end of the auction. You also choose the duration of the auction, 3-10 days.
A classified ad is where you state the price you would like for an item. Buyers can choose to buy the item at the stated price by selecting the "Buy It Now" button. Or, they may contact you with a lower offer. You have the option of accepting or declining their offer. Classified ads run for 30 days.
How do I start an auction or classified ad?
You'll need to register first. Go here if you haven't registered. Once you've done that, go to My Page, and select either "Start an auction" or "Place a classified" in the left hand column.
Tips for writing a good listing
The Roonuts search engine searchs titles only.
For a car listing be sure to include the year, make, model in the title. You may also want to include things such as coupe, convertible, exterior color etc.
- Example: 1974 Alfa GTV 2000 silver coupe.
In the description be sure to include vin #, mileage and any other pertinent informatioin.
For a car part, include the make, model, item name. List the item under the sub-category that best fits the item.
- Example: Porsche 930 brake calipers & rotors.
In the description be sure to include information such as what model and year the parts fit and any other pertenant information.
How do I load photos?
It's important to include photos of the item you're selling. This gives buyers the opportunity to see exactly what they are buying and to ask questions.
You can add up to nine images for each listing. The first image will be the
main thumbnail for that item-, the one buyers see in searches and at the top
of the listing. Make sure it is clear and shows the entire item. Your
photos should be at least 430 pixels wide, and no more than 200K in file
size. Images will be automatically resized to 600 pixels wide if they are
more than 600 pixels wide, they are also scaled down for the thumbnails.
Roonuts accepts images that are JPEG, GIF or PNG format.
When editing or creating a listing, click on the "browse" button and locate
an image on your computer. Then click the "upload" button and you'll see a
thumbnail of the image. Images must reside locally on your computer, you
can't use a photo that exists on the web.

This is a group of items that are sold as 1 item. The winning bid, or "Buy It Now" price is for the entire lot. You can list the items that make up the lot, but cannot sell the items individually.

What is a "pending sale"?
At the end of an auction inwhich there is a winning bidder the auction item is moved to the "Sales pending" page on your "My Page".
When a buyer agrees to buy an item by selecting "Buy It Now" that item is marked "Sales pending" in the classified listings. The item is also moved to the "Sales pending" page on your "My Page". We do this to make it easier to track items which may have sold but payment hasn't been received.
When you have received payment for an item, mark it sold. The
item will move to your sold items page.
If the item didn't sell, click on the "didn't sell" X. A classified ad
is automatically re-listed and runs to its original expiration date. An
auction item is moved to the closed auction page where it can be re-listed for a fee.
How to I find a record of items I've sold?
Go to "My Page" and click on "Sold items." Go there now.
How do I verify the payment is good?
You should check with your bank regarding their payment receipt policies. Depending on the form of payment (personal check, certified check, etc), your bank will have specific deadlines for "clearing" or "guaranteeing" the funds. This may range from three days to one week. Generally speaking, you should be able to call your bank and confirm the deposit and subsequent clearing of a payment.
How do I protect myself?
Sellers have two risks to consider:
- Receiving a valid payment.
-
Delivering an item as described.
Delivering the item as described is the seller's responsibility. You should pack the item well and ship it insured. If the shipping company loses or damages the item, you, the seller, are responsible in all cases to offer a refund to the buyer.
Do I have to respond to messages from other members?
It's not mandatory to respond to all emails even though we encourage it. However, if you have started a transaction, then you are obligated to respond to that buyer until the transaction is complete.
How do I relist an item when the buyer didn't pay?
Go to "My Page" and click on "Sales pending", select "Didn't sell".
